to see how everything would turn out, and, if I m honest, made me roll my eyes once or twice, too.It was love at first sight for Rebecca and Paul Both were wary of relationships despite the fact that Paul was married at the time and both shared dark and painful childhoods marked by tragedy, but they couldn t imagine not being together, almost as if destiny brought them together They shared a passionate relationship and dreamed of building an amazing home on Long Island, and both contributed Mark with his contracting business and Rebecca as a successful pharmaceutical sales representative.Nearly 20 years later their marriage has weathered some serious ups and downs When Mark lost his job it put a strain on their relationship, and Rebecca found herselfandin the throes of an opioid addiction an easy thing to feed when you sell pharmaceuticals Mark had an affair, and it doesn t take too long for his mistress to wantthan he is willing to give her and that doesn t make her happy As she growsunhinged, it threatens to topple Mark and Rebecca s marriage for good, not to mention put them in danger Had we really gotten so far away from each other that I d stopped looking, and Paul knew I had Time had passed in the intangible way that it does when you aren t paying attention I didn t see the tether fraying to such a precarious degree When Rebecca discovers Mark s plans for a new life, plans that he hasn t shared with her, she is, at turns, hurt, nervous, worried, and angry As she becomesanddependent on a mixed cocktail of drugs, and her supply dwindles, she can t always think clearly, but she starts to formulate plans of her own, and figure out how to make her husband pay for his betrayal But there are other elements in play, elements that neither of them can expect.Whenever I read a thriller, I m automatically suspicious of everyone and everything A character comes on the scene, I immediately craft ways they could be responsible So while that habit is a bit distracting at times, it also takes a lot to surprise me E.G Scott definitely kept me guessing in places, and my suspicions weren t always correct There was one major twist that was surprising, but at the same time I found myself exclaiming,ReallySuspension of disbelief necessary The Woman Inside starts out being narrated by Paul and Rebecca, shifting between the present and their past everything from the beginning of their relationship to crucial events a few days or weeks earlier , but then Scott opens the narration up to several other characters I think I would have preferred seeing the story only through their eyes I found one character fairly one dimensional, and didn t really enjoy their perspectives even as they were revealing twists.E.G Scott is the pseudonym for two writers They ve got a lot of talent between them, and I thought that having Rebecca narrate part of the story while she s in the midst of a drug addiction and dealing with cravings and withdrawals was a great plot device, since she s an entirely different kind of unreliable narrator Even if I didn t love it, The Woman Inside definitely kept me hooked, and it kept me guessing, so it did a pretty good job.Thriller fans, you might want to pick this one up Buddy read with Andrew.See all of my reviews at itseithersadnessoreuphoria.blogspot.com.Check out my list of the best books I thankful I didn t read it before starting I would have been bummed that the first big twist was pretty much spoiled on the back cover Next, the timehops The wibbly wobbly is used quite frequently in mysteries thrillers and works okay for me about 50% of the time However, in this book the time goes from waaaaaay before to immediately before to waaaaaay after to immediately after and everywhere in between with no indication exactly where you are until you read a few paragraphs and figure it out Third, too many POVs It s one thing to follow the husband and wife It s another to follow them annnnnd a mistress annnnnnnnd a couple of police detectivesFourth, now I m a gal who likes an unreliable narrator as much, if not , than the next guy Buuuuuuuuuuut, there s a big difference between And being unconscious so no one knows WTF is happening at all. Then there s the twists and turns All I can say is YMMV, but as a reader who picks up A LOT of thrillers, attempting to heave everything but the kitchen sink at me doesn t mean diddly Nothing here was a surprise and I saw it all coming a mile and a half away There s also a big difference between reading a book that owns how much it is over the top and is simply bringing the reader along for a crazy ride and one who tries to take itself seriously while being OTT I could have saved myself a lot of time and.gif hunting if curiosity would have got the better of me earlier and I had simply Googled these authors An article about them in EW disclosed Both authors are thriller junkies they volleyed chapters back and forth, each taking on a POV Each chapter is in direct response to the one before, and throwing potential twists at each other That really was fun, Wands says Adds Keenan The aim to shock and surprise with each chapter was very motivating We got a little aggressiveBasically this was a game of trying to one up the other It didn t work for me ARC provided by the publisher in exchange for an honest review. Wow just wow This book was so flipping wrong but right up my alley I loved this book My favorite kind of book is a dark, twisted, crazy thriller and this sure was one I am mad at myself for not reading this sooner Most of the focus is on Paul and Rebecca s 20 year marriage and how it started to unravel Rebecca is quite the interesting character She is a pharmaceutical representative that quite the couple, actually a match made in heaven They had secrets from each other, secrets with other people and secrets with each other I probably gasped a million times at the shocking things these two did The character development was amazing and they were the couple I loved to hate This is such a twisted read that I can t say muchwithout giving things away I never saw these twists coming and they were not just thrown in there to throw you off, they were well executed and shocking Everyone involved in the book is not really likable but who cares, it made them all theinteresting I found myself holding my breath during the last chapter because it was just that crazy. All I can say is if you have not read this, you need to I am hoping E.G Scott has something in the works because I can t wait to read another by this great duo As a nurse I am praying that Euphellis is purely fictional Fingers crossed.Thank you so much to E.G Scott, Penguin Group and Netgalley for this fantastic book The main issue I had with this book was it felt like the authors E.G Scott is a pseudonym concentrated so much on this twisted plot and forgot that there needs to be some compelling reason why the reader should be interested in what happens to the characters I m all for unlikable characters in books, but there has to be something about them that wants me to keep reading The first 100 pages or Rebecca discovers Paul is inching his way out the door with their life savings, she develops a plan to get revenge This book is full of deeply disturbed individuals and takes one crazy turn after another. While this becameof a page turner in the second half, my overall feeling is it s just an okay read I give the authors credit for trying to come up with a plot that tries to catch readers off guard but unfortunately the book suffered greatly from poorly developed characters I think this might be one of the rare instances that if the book were made into a movie, the film would have the potential to be better I won a free copy of this book in a giveaway but was under no obligation to post a review All views expressed are my honest opinion An impossible to put down domestic thriller about secrets and revenge, told from the perspectives of a husband and wife who are the most perfect, and the most dangerous, match for each other Rebecca didn t know love was possible until she met Paul, a successful, charismatic, married man with a past as dark as her own Their pain drew them together with an irresistible magnetism they sensed that they were each other s ideal and perhaps only will get under your skin, you won t want to put it down The story is told by Rebecca and her Husband Paul.It takes a lil while to get your head around the story as it flips from past and present, but it s so worth it as you delve deeper into the turmoil.I loved how Scott drip fed us juicy information and left us dangling until the next instalment loved it, very effective Just from reading the prologue I was excited, it doesn t give anything away but sets an eerie tone Rebecca and Paul were madly in love, married for 20 years, but they each have deep dark secrets, they are keeping from each other Eeek I can t say anything without the potential of giving something juicy away.Rebecca is addicted to medication, she did work in pharmaceutical industry but has just been sacked.Paul s business is on the up again after a hard knock But when Rebecca goes to their joint account it s nearly all gone, and ALL the transactions made are from Paul Rebecca has to now figure out just why has their whole life savings gone and just what is he hiding Rebecca and Paul are really not likeable Characters, but who doesn t love to hate characters and then find they have a love hate relationship with them They are literally the perfect characters for this story.Self absorbed, selfish, manipulate, untrustworthy, addictive personalities Rebecca s addiction made for an interesting spin, as you never quiet knew how to take her You are well aware she s high but then eerie things happen then she doubts herself making the reader doubt her too, brilliantly written THE WOMAN INSIDE is a Taut, Compulsive Atmospheric read that will get under your skin.It s a pacy read that sends you on a rollercoaster as you try to work out what s going on.There are plenty of juicy twists to keep you guessing. Each chapter draws you in, as you become further embroiled into their seedy and murky relationship. The writing flows seamlessly between characters past and present I am still amazed that this was written by two Authors co writing It s flawless, you would never know I just want to say there are some sexual encounters which some readers may find difficult, but it does add ambience to the story and isn t too explicit.I would love to see The Woman Inside made into a thriller film, it would be perfect. It has the right amount of suspense and tension to get viewers hooked. There are some amazing Thrillers already this year, and I m adding The Woman Inside at the top Would I recommend reading this intoxicating Thriller without a doubt.Yes Thank you to Trapeze Books for this copy which flawless image, is a flawed and broken relationship that is hidden in secret Rebecca has an opioid addiction that has taken a life of its own, while Paul has lost his job and began an extramarital affair with one of their neighbors As Paul s affair begins to unravel, he begins to realize that it s not as hot, steamy, and validating as he thought it would be As Paul begins to set things right, Rebecca is ready to let go The duo begin to banter back and forth, both emotionally and psychologically, in order to gain the ultimate power freedom This book was so unexpected, folks I saw a lot of mixed reviews on here, but I jumped at the chance to read this book because a the cover is gorgeous I am superficial, judge all you want b the setting takes place on Long Island, where I grew up c it seemed like it would be full of mystery and suspense The Woman Inside isthan just a mystery domestic thriller because it also shows the reality in the world we are living The United States s opioid epidemic is destroying families across the country and I have yet to read a book that reflects that issue Sure, we have a ton of unreliable narrators who have drinking problems, but that feat has been shown time and time again This time, we have a bird s eye view on how opioids can hurt anyone rich, poor, no matter your color, or gender In fact, after reading this novel, I begin researchingabout this on National Institute of Drug Abuse to learnThis is the first time that a book has gotten me to venture that far into reality once I ve finished reading it The Woman Inside not only grabbed my attention with their discussion about opioid abuse, but it also had a lot of unexpected twists and turns This novel didn t throw random twists or red herrings out there for you to lose sight of what s happening, but each clue was part of a bigger puzzle A puzzle that I effectively did not figure out and was shocked when it came to an end I do think that this book will polarize readers on two different sides one side with devoted fans, and another side of bitter enemies This book will be left up for discussion, and I can t wait to be part of that.Thank you Dutton Books for my advanced copy
